ACTIVE INCIDENT Shopify Scripts shut down 2026-06-30 · unmigrated stores affected scripts-rescue

Your Shopify Scripts died on June 30.

Nothing crashed. No error email. Your checkout quietly reverted: custom discounts stopped applying, hidden shipping rates came back, filtered payment methods reappeared. If your Plus store ran on Script Editor, it has been running without its rules since July 1 — and charging some customers the wrong totals.

No call required. Email your store URL — you get a written report of every dead Script and what it's costing you.

What happened

  1. Scripts locked. Editing and publishing disabled platform-wide. Stores with broken logic couldn't even patch it.

  2. Every Script stopped executing. No grace period, no rollback, no third extension. (Shopify changelog)

  3. Silent fallback. Checkouts revert to standard behavior: no custom pricing, every shipping rate visible, every payment method offered. No alert is sent. Most merchants find out from their margins.

What your customers see now

SURFACEWITH YOUR SCRIPTSSINCE JULY 1
Discounts Spend tiers, bulk pricing, BOGO, VIP and wholesale rules applied automatically Full price. Loyal customers quietly pay more
Shipping Rates renamed, reordered, hidden by rules; free-shipping thresholds Every rate shows, in default order. Threshold promises broken
Payments Methods filtered by cart, customer tag, or B2B terms Every enabled method offered to everyone — including ones that cost you money

Quick self-check: add products to your own cart past an old discount threshold. If no discount line appears, your Scripts are gone and this page is about you.

The fix: Shopify Functions

Functions are Shopify's replacement — your pricing logic compiled to WebAssembly, running inside Shopify's own checkout. Faster than Scripts ever were, no servers to maintain, and unlike Scripts they work on every plan, not just Plus.

Your old Script doesn't copy across. The logic has to be rebuilt against the Functions APIs, deployed as an app on your store, tested, and activated — which is exactly the work I do.

STRAIGHT ANSWER FIRST

Some Scripts don't need me. A simple tiered discount converts fine with an off-the-shelf $30/month app, and if that's your situation, the post-mortem will say so — you keep the report, pay nothing, and we're done. The Scripts that don't convert cleanly are stacked discount logic, carrier-rate shipping rules, B2B payment filtering, and anything bespoke. Those I hand-build.

How an engagement runs

  1. Post-mortem

You grant collaborator access — scoped, code-approved by you, revocable anytime, uses no staff seat. Within 48 hours you get a written inventory of every dead Script, what your checkout is doing wrong right now, and a fixed price per fix.

    FREE · 48H TURNAROUND
  2. Fixed-price rescue

Each Function is quoted before work starts. The price is the price — no hourly meter, no scope surprises. Days, not the 4–8 weeks agencies quote.

    SINGLE SCRIPT $1,000–1,500 · COMPLEX / STACKED LOGIC $2,500–5,000
  3. Proof, then invoice

Every Function ships with a runnable test suite and a live walkthrough on a test cart before it touches production. You watch the discount fire, then you pay.

Common situations

We installed a migrator app, but some rules still don't work.

That's the most common call. The no-code migrators are good — and they convert most logic. The remainder (stacked discounts, carrier-rate conditions, anything that read external data) is exactly the gap I fill. The post-mortem will name which rules fell through.

Is collaborator access safe?

It's Shopify's built-in mechanism for exactly this: you approve a request code, you choose the permission scope, you can revoke it the moment we're done. I never ask for a password and never occupy a staff seat.

How fast can this be live?

Post-mortem inside 48 hours. Most single-Script rescues are live within a week of the go-ahead, including testing on a safe cart before production.

We left Plus after Scripts died. Are we stuck?

No — that's the one upside of this mess. Scripts were Plus-only; Functions work on every plan. Your old logic can follow you down-plan.
